Welcome to Worcester Community Action Council
Worcester Community Action Council’s (WCAC) mission is helping people move to economic self-sufficiency through programs, partnerships, and advocacy. WCAC was started in 1965 under President Lyndon B. Johnson’s “War on Poverty.” It is the federally designated “community action agency” for Central MA. Today, the agency serves the City of Worcester and 45 surrounding towns through emergency and social service programs.
3rd Annual WCAC Resiliency Awards
WCAC’s 3rd Annual Resiliency Awards will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, from 8-9:30 a.m. at AC Hotel by Marriott Worcester, 125 Front Street, Worcester. The event will recognize people striving to make every day better for the lives of those in our community, and celebrate the wonderful legacy of heroes who have helped support WCAC’s work in moving individuals and families out of poverty and towards economic mobility.
Home Heating Help is Here
The home energy assistance program (LIHEAP) is a free resource to help eligible households pay a portion of winter heating bills. No matter what type of heating source you have, LIHEAP may be able to help you pay your bills. Explore your eligibility and apply for assistance. DEADLINE TO APPLY FOR 2023-24 SEASON HAS BEEN EXTENDED UNTIL MAY 10, 2024.
Community Baby Shower
WCAC's Healthy Families of Southern Worcester County program will host its 17th Annual Community Baby Shower on Wednesday, May 15 from 1-4 p.m. The event features a variety of vendors offering community resources and activities of interest to new or soon-to-be parents, along with raffles and door prizes. Not to be missed is the ever-popular Baby Boutique featuring gently used clothing for infants and toddlers! Admission is FREE and open to all.
